Allen House Historic Preservation - San Luis Obispo, CA

1700 Osos is a remodel of an existing Historic Landmark home in San Luis Obispo. This home, known as the Allen House and built in approximately 1900, had been neglected after years of being a fraternity house, student housing, and more. The AGD team reviewed historic preservation guidelines and developed a design that the Cultural Heritage Committee could truly stand behind. The Allen House was therefore remodeled on the inside and exterior to bring the building up to code and into the new century. The interior hosts 14 bedrooms and an attached 3-bedroom accessory dwelling unit. The building is approximately 5900sf and includes a new covered porch and deck in the rear yard. The interior received all new finishes, a new kitchen, new bathroom fixtures, fire sprinklers, and new electrical power and lighting. The history of the exterior was honored and the existing siding was repaired and preserved as much as possible as was the windows. The building received new roofing and new skylights. The Allen House will now be a new multi-family housing space for future generations to enjoy the Railroad District of San Luis Obispo and feel like they live as part of history.
