Conejo Community Park and Center - Thousand Oaks, CA
The Conejo Community Park is located in Thousand Oaks, California and services the communities of Thousand Oaks, Westlake Village, and Newbury Park. For over half a century the existing community center and park have catered to thousands of families by providing grassy gathering areas, playgrounds, a baseball field, a creek, and earthen amphitheater perfect for their Friday Night concert series. AGD and KTUA (landscape and planning) were hired as a team to re-envision the park and design a new community center to enhance the communities’ experience for decades more to come. This community center has been designed as a two-story, 15,000 square foot facility with classrooms, multipurpose spaces, commercial kitchen, and plenty of storage for the many groups that use the center. The design was conceived to meet Living Building Challenge Petal Certification, and many sustainable features are being included to contribute to a building with carbon-neutrality in mind. The park included a new restroom building, a new stage, addition to the playground, picnic areas, site lighting, landscaping, and pathways. A new parking lot was also designed to help accommodate the daily visitor traffic.
