Butterfly Residence
Paso Robles, CA

Located on a remote hilltop in western Paso Robles, this 4-bedroom, 4-1/2 bathroom home was designed to be a sustainable and fire-resistant contemporary retreat. The hillside lot provided an excellent opportunity to bury a portion of the home into the hillside and still capture the greatest views from the lot. The basement level includes a wine cellar that captures the benefits of being buried down and into the ground. This also helps with fire resilience as concrete is a major structural element of the home. All other materials around the home were designed to provide a resilient solution to the wildfire threat while being maintenance free. The roof is shaped to capture rainwater and maximize the collection of solar energy. This home is both resilient and sustainable.
